You Need to Drive Your Chevy to this Levee-For Sure!
Hunter and I moved to Tuscaloosa just short of a year ago. When we moved, one of the things that I wanted to do is to really learn about the area that we are living in. One of the best ways to do this is try local eateries. In a very short time, we found one of our favorite places in the Northport-Tuscaloosa area. If you are here and wanting to try some great food, then head on over to the Levee.
We first tried the Levee on our 1 year wedding anniversary after we had just closed on our first house. I am sure that we could have eaten McDonalds then and it would have tasted like a gourmet meal. We have continued to go back, and each time we have been thoroughly pleased.
The menu has multiple options from comfort food to specialty salads. A lot of the menu options feature different seafood plates, which is one of our food-loves. I personally have not tried anything that was not seafood, but everything I have had has been delicious. This is a great place to bring a group of people with all different tastes. From what I have seen, there is something for everyone.
As for appetizers, they offer a nice selection. Hunter says that they have the best fried green tomatoes that he has ever eaten. Trust me, that's a big compliment! My appetizer favorite is the shrimp dip and the raw oysters. The shrimp dip is a hot dip with a cream cheese base that is served with warm bread. It doesn't get much better than this. The oysters are salted just enough for a great taste without over powering the actual oyster.
If you are wanting pasta, the Black Warrior pasta is great! The pasta consists of seasonal vegetables with a white sauce and grilled shrimp. The first few times that we ate there, this was my meal of choice. If you are wanting shrimp without having to peel them, the blackened shrimp is definitely your meal. The shrimp are perfectly seasoned with a hint of spice. This entree also comes with two sides. My sides of choice are the house salad, baked sweet potato, and macaroni and cheese. I have decided to try something different the last two times that we have gone to the Levee, and again, I have not been disappointed.
The last two times we have visited the Levee, I have gotten the Crabcake Napoleon. This is literally a stack of crabcakes and fried green tomatoes- I mean c'mon. How can it get better than that? The crabcakes are fried until golden and stacked in between fried green tomatoes. They have a house sauce that is drizzled over the crabcakes that adds a nice added flavor (but you really don't need it). This entree is also served with two sides.
The prices are fairly decent. It is definitely not the cheapest place in town, but you should not leave here feeling hungry. I'll tell you this, Hunter is not one to eat at expensive places, but he has no problem paying for a meal here because of the quantity of food and the quality of food that you receive. What makes this restaurant better is that it is located on the Black Warrior River. You have the option of sitting inside with large windows everywhere to see the river. You can also sit outside over looking the river. I think this is one of the reasons that we like the Levee so much because it is so relaxing.
The restaurant is really a large place. Our largest party at one time has only been 4 people. If you are looking to host a rather large event, they have the room. We have seen multiple large parties eating here, and they have had plenty of room to accommodate everywhere.
Whether you are living in Tuscaloosa, just passing through, or are a regular during football season, make the Levee your next food destination. Where is your favorite place to eat?
